The music
and song in this show was consciously selected to reflect the history
and geography ot the Upper Shannon basin region and was directed
by renowned bouzouki player/accompanist/arranger Niall O Callanain..
The majority of the artists in Sionainn come from
counties in this area - Westmeath, Roscommon, Longford, Leitrim
and Cavan - and include well-known names such as John Wynne (flute),
James Donohoe (accordion) and Irene Guckian (fiddle). Sionainn,
meaning Shannon, gives the group its name and the show its theme,
entitled Crossing the Shannon from the lively reel
of the same name. Together with dance and stories the production
showcases the strong traditional culture of the area.
Crossing the Shannon is produced
by Michael Gunn and James Donohoe. |
